THE GREAT PHYSICIAN INTERNATIONAL
Obesity, diabetes, hypertension, the common cold, cancer and AIDS are now accepted as normal phenomena in society. Men have become less aware of the signs of being dis-eased, and even more ignorant of the causes thus are unable to heal themselves. Now the majority of people walk about with some kind of infirmity which has been accepted as the norm. Men have no choice but to free himself from this net of illusion and suffering. The motivation to heal ones self and others must come from within for God resides in man. It is common place that one look outside of themselves for the solutions to their problems, one would quickly run to the doctor if they have a soar throat, headache or stomach pain. Why? Man?s anatomy has become a stranger to him; he no longer knows himself and believes that a doctor knows his being better than he does.

Diabetes (die-a-bet-is) mellitus Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disorder of carbohydrate, fat, and protein metabolism, characterized by high levels of blood glucose. It results from insufficient production of insulin by the pancreas or decrease sensitivity. Without insulin, the body cannot utilize glucose. In people with diabetes, glucose levels build up in the blood and urine, causing excessive urination, thirst, hunger, and problems with fat and protein metabolism. Diabetes mellitus differs from the less common diabetes insipidus, which is caused by lack of the hormone vasopressin, which controls the amount of urine excreted. What is insulin and why is it so important? Types of diabetes Having knowledge of how the anatomy functions normally enables us to better understand the dis-ease processes of the system. When one suffers from diabetes the day to day activity of insulin will be severely compromised hence we have a pathology or what we refer to as disease. Type 1 diabetes Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease, that is, a condition in which the body?s disease-fighting immune system goes awry and attacks healthy tissues. In the case of Type 1 diabetes, the immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys insulin-producing cells, known as beta cells, in the pancreas. Scientists believe that a combination of genetic and environmental factors somehow triggers the immune system to destroy these cells. Genetic factors are more often lifestyles that have been handed down from generation to generation over a number of years. Some families have developed certain behaviors that put them at a certain predisposition to be affected by certain diseases. For instance if one is raised in a family where they religiously have bacon and rare steak daily there will be obesity in this family that will be seen throughout the generations. Environmental factors, such as certain viruses, may also contribute to the development of the disease, particularly in people who already have a genetic predisposition for the disease. In addition to causing a buildup of glucose in the blood, untreated Type 1 diabetes affects the metabolism of fat. Because the body cannot convert glucose into energy, it begins to break down stored fat for fuel. This produces increasing amounts of acidic compounds in the blood called ketone bodies, which interfere with cellular respiration, the energy-producing process in cells. Type 2 diabetes In Type 2 diabetes, formerly known as non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) and adult-onset diabetes, the body?s delicate balance between insulin production and the ability of cells to use insulin goes awry. Symptoms characteristic of Type 2 diabetes include those found in Type 1 diabetes, as well as repeated infections or skin sores that heal slowly or not at all, generalized tiredness, and tingling or numbness in the hands or feet. The onset of Type 2 diabetes usually occurs after the age of 45, although the incidence of the disease in younger people is growing rapidly. Because symptoms develop slowly, individuals with the disease may not immediately recognize that they are sick. In addition, there is a strong relationship between obesity and Type 2 diabetes. About 80 percent of diabetics with this form of the disease are significantly overweight. What is the solution? A vegan Livity. GIVE THE YOUTHS A FAIR CHANCE AND THEY WILL DO IT. Eating a low-fat vegan diet may be better at managing type 2 diabetes than traditional diets, according to a new study.
Researchers found 43 percent of people with type 2 diabetes who followed a low-fat vegan diet for 22 weeks reduced their need to take medications to manage their disease compared with 26 percent of those who followed the diet recommended by the American Diabetes Association (ADA).
In addition, participants who followed the vegan diet experienced greater reductions in cholesterol levels and weight loss than those on the other diet.
A vegan diet is plant-based and consists of vegetables, fruits, grains, and legumes and avoids animal products.
"The diet appears remarkably effective, and all the side effects are good ones -- especially weight loss and lower cholesterol," says researcher Neal D. Barnard, MD, adjunct associate professor of medicine at the George Washington University, in a news release. "I hope this study will rekindle interest in using diet changes first, rather than prescription drugs."
